About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks for various areas including common areas, bathrooms, food courts, and grounds care, as well as customer relations and service.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for cleaning tasks and equipment operation.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution.
Clean bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, using germicidal solutions.
Empty and clean trash cans, replacing liners as needed.
Dust or vacuum floors using a dust mop or vacuum cleaner, working from back to front.
Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and performing high dusting of window areas.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, and clean trays.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from back to room.
Visually inspect cleaned areas to ensure furniture placement and cleanliness standards are met.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting.
Engage in customer relations and service, responding courteously to questions and reporting issues to supervisors.
Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report completion status of work assignments to supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing), carpet extraction and bonneting, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
