About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Sufficient sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for cleaning tasks and operating equipment.

Responsibilities

  • High dusting of surfaces above shoulder height using a treated high duster.
  • Sanitizing and spot cleaning surfaces below shoulder height, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
  • Spot cleaning fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs, walls, and windows.
  • Cleaning bathrooms, including sinks, toilet seats, the outside and inside of toilet bowls, and refilling soap and paper dispensers.
  • Emptying trash cans, replacing liners, and cleaning cans if liquid is present.
  • Dusting or vacuuming floors using a treated dust mophead or vacuum cleaner, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
  • Performing grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Cleaning public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters, and performing high dusting of window areas.
  • Cleaning, removing trash, and sanitizing tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, emptying and cleaning trash cans, removing dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning, and policing outside eating areas.
  • Sanitizing floors using the proper germicidal solution, ensuring all areas under furniture and behind doors are cleaned.
  • Mentally reviewing cleaning steps and visually checking furniture placement after completing a room to prevent problems.
  • Performing daily cleaning of hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting.
  • Interacting with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions, and reporting any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
  • Working quietly and staying within the assigned work area unless directed otherwise by a supervisor.
  • Maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Reporting to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Performing other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
