About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, trash.
  • Ability to push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes.
  • Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout shift.
  • Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves.
  • Ability to reach, handle, grasp and finger while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment.
  • Overhead reaching required throughout shift.
  • Sight required for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards.
  • Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height (lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges) in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trash cans) in a counter-clockwise direction. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down sinks, toilet seats, and the outside of toilet bowls with a germicidal solution. Clean the inside of the toilet bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and place a clean liner in the trash can.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an "S" stroke, starting from the back of the room, dusting under furniture and in restrooms. Clean the mophead with a counter brush. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are covered.
  • Grounds care (Outside areas): Clean and check outside areas multiple times daily. Empty and clean ash urns and trash cans. Police sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts. Spot clean spills on sidewalks. Remove gum with a scraper. Wipe benches and vending machines. Wipe lower window ledges. High dust for dust and cobwebs. Clean public area glass as necessary. Police parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass multiple times daily. Clean planters inside and out, ensuring they are free from bird waste. Check for cobwebs and high dust window areas at least twice a week. Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom and clean them using a tray power washer. Stack clean trays for recycled use. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using the proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room when sanitizing the floor. Mop under furniture and behind doors as you back out of the room.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room. Make corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and cheerful to customers. Answer questions courteously or refer them to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work quietly and speak quietly. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (this could include, but is not limited to, floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
