About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, overhead reaching, and having adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height (e.g., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges) in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trash cans) in a counter-clockwise direction. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using germicidal solution, clean and sanitize sinks, toilet seats, and the outside of toilet bowls. Clean the inside of toilet bowls with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: If liquid is present, remove the liner, wipe the can, and place a clean liner.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an "S" stroke, starting from the back of the room, dusting under furniture and in restrooms. Clean mophead with a counter brush and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back and work towards the door, ensuring coverage under furniture.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas multiple times daily, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning sidewalk spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass multiple times daily. Clean planters inside and out, removing bird waste. Perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week, checking corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using germicidal solution, start at the back of the room and mop under furniture and behind doors while backing out.
  • Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are performed daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and courteous to customers, answer questions helpfully, or refer them to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work and speak quietly, reducing noise. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report incomplete work assignments to the supervisor. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (this could include, but is not limited to, floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
