About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces using a germicidal solution, working counter-clockwise around the room, sanitizing ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down the sink area, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim.
  • Clean and check soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily, refilling as needed.
  • Empty trash cans, removing and replacing liners, and wiping down cans if liquid is present.
  • Dust or vacuum floors, starting at the back of the room and working towards the door, using the 'S' stroke for dusting and ensuring all areas under furniture are covered.
  • Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, and high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
  • Clean public area glass as necessary and police the parking lot for trash.
  • Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean public area glass multiple times a day, clean planters inside and out, check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week, and check all corners and edges for debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, place chairs back under tables, spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning, and police outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks for halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls, including spotting and high dusting.
  • Engage in customer relations and service by knocking lightly before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring customers to the appropriate person, reporting broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor, working quietly, staying in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
