About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
Ability to lift/carry 1 – 30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, trash.
Ability to push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas and drapes.
Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout shift.
Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas and retrieving supplies from lower shelves.
Ability to reach, handle, grasp and finger while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment.
Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout shift.
Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
Clean bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, using germicidal solutions.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans as needed.
Dust mop or vacuum floors using appropriate techniques and equipment.
Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and parking lots, spot cleaning spills, and wiping down benches and vending machines.
Clean public common areas, including dusting and spot mopping hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and high dusting window areas.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, spot clean spills, and clean trash cans.
Clean and sanitize tables in the food court, place chairs back under tables, and spot clean for spills.
Remove accumulated dirty trays to the washroom and clean them using a tray power washer.
Police outside eating areas.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from the back of the room.
Perform final inspection of rooms, checking cleaning steps and furniture placement.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting.
Maintain customer relations and service by being friendly, courteous, and helpful.
Report anything broken or out of order to the supervisor.
Work quietly and maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report to supervisor if work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care, carpet cleaning, auto scrubbing, and buffing floors.
