About The Position

The primary purpose of this role is to perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This includes performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

• Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
• Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
• Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
• Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
• Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
• Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
• Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift/carry 1 – 30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, trash.
• Ability to push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes.
• Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout shift.
• Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves.
• Ability to reach, handle, grasp and finger while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment.
• Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout shift.
• Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

• High dusting of surfaces above shoulder height using a treated high duster.
• Sanitizing and spot cleaning surfaces below shoulder height with a germicidal solution.
• Spot cleaning windows.
• Cleaning bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers.
• Emptying trash cans, replacing liners, and cleaning cans if necessary.
• Dusting or vacuuming floors using appropriate techniques and equipment.
• Performing grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing parking lots.
• Cleaning public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters, and high dusting window areas.
• Cleaning, removing trash, and sanitizing tables in the food court, and cleaning trays.
• Sanitizing floors using the proper germicidal solution.
• Conducting self-inspections after completing cleaning tasks to ensure standards are met.
• Performing daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting.
• Interacting with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions, and reporting issues to supervisors.
• Maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance.
• Reporting to supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
• Performing other duties as assigned, which may include floor care, carpet extraction, and floor buffing.
