About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods.
  • Operating powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Lifting/carrying 1 – 30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash.
  • Push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes.
  • Bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck throughout shift.
  • Kneeling/crouching/crawling while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves.
  • Reaching, handling, grasping and fingering while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment. Overhead reaching required throughout shift.
  • Sight – in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards. Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and remove fingerprints and smudges from surfaces.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Clean and sanitize sinks, toilets, and check/refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, clean cans if necessary, and replace liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors using appropriate techniques, including under furniture.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying trash, policing sidewalks and parking lots, spot cleaning spills, and wiping down benches and vending machines.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, planters, and perform high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables, spot clean spills, clean trash cans, and process dirty trays.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from the back of the room.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement for corrections.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Be friendly, courteous, helpful, and maintain a neat personal appearance. Report issues to the supervisor and stay in the assigned work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care, carpet cleaning, auto scrubbing, and buffing floors.
