About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment. This role involves detailed cleaning of various areas including dusting, sanitizing, bathroom cleaning, trash removal, floor care, and grounds maintenance. The position also requires good customer relations and service skills, reporting any issues to a supervisor, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, or trash.
Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout the shift.
Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas or retrieving supplies.
Ability to reach, handle, grasp, and finger while operating equipment and cleaning surfaces.
Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout the shift.
Adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for cleaning tasks and operating equipment safely.

Nice To Haves

Experience with floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster in a counter-clockwise direction, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, removing fingerprints and smudges from surfaces and spot cleaning windows.
Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, and refilling them as needed.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if they contain liquid.
Dust mop or vacuum floors using an “S” stroke, ensuring all areas under furniture and in restrooms are cleaned.
Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and performing high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, spot clean spills, empty trash cans, and process dirty trays.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
Visually inspect rooms after cleaning to ensure furniture placement is correct and to prevent problems or complaints.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, along with high dusting.
Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions or referring them to someone who can assist.
Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
Work quietly and maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing, carpet extraction, and auto scrubbing/buffing floors.
