About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate for the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, overhead reaching, and possessing adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room and cleaning surfaces above shoulder height (e.g., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges).
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, working counter-clockwise (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trash cans).
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down in a specific order: above and below the sink, the outside of the toilet bowl, and the inside of the toilet bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution. Ensure attention to the rim of the toilet bowl.
  • Check and refill soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty trash cans, removing and replacing liners. If liquid is present, wipe down the trash can before placing a new liner.
  • Dust mop or vacuum floors, starting at the back of the room and using an "S" stroke to catch dust. Dust under all furniture and in restrooms, stopping just inside the door. Clean mop heads with a counter brush and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, work from the back of the room towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum with a scraper, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass as necessary, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the Food Court. Place chairs back under tables, spot clean spills, and empty trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors while backing out.
  • Conduct self-inspections after completing cleaning tasks, mentally reviewing steps and visually checking furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, as well as high dusting.
  • Engage in customer relations and service by knocking lightly on occupied doors before entering, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring customers to someone who can help, reporting broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor, working quietly, staying in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
