About The Position

The General Cleaner performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans, using a germicidal solution.
Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot clean windows using the proper solution.
Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down sinks, toilets, and dispensers, and refilling dispensers as needed.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and wiping down cans if liquid is present.
Dust or vacuum floors using a treated dust mophead or vacuum cleaner, working from the back of the room towards the door and cleaning under furniture.
Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, and policing the parking lot.
Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters, and performing high dusting of window areas.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, and cleaning trash cans.
Remove accumulated dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use.
Police outside eating areas in the food court.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
Conduct self-inspections after cleaning rooms, mentally reviewing steps and visually checking furniture placement for corrections.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, as well as high dusting.
Engage in customer relations and service by knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring customers to someone who can, reporting broken items, working quietly, and maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
