About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Sufficient sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for cleaning tasks, safety standards, and equipment operation.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction (e.g., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges).
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, trash cans) in a counter-clockwise direction. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down bathroom surfaces including sinks, toilets, and dispensers using a germicidal solution. Clean the inside of toilet bowls with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and replace with a clean liner.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an "S" stroke, ensuring all furniture and restroom areas are covered. Clean mop heads and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, covering all furniture.
  • Grounds Care: Clean and check outside areas multiple times daily, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass surfaces multiple times daily. Clean planters inside and out, ensuring they are free from bird waste. Perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week, checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycling. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors while backing out.
  • Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily Tasks: Perform hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, along with high dusting.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and courteous to customers, answer questions helpfully, or refer them to the appropriate person. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work and speak quietly, reducing noise. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report incomplete work assignments to the supervisor. Always be courteous.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care tasks such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
