The North Platte Telegraph is hiring a General Assignment Reporter to cover the stories that shape our community — from classrooms to courtrooms, from small businesses to community events

Requirements

• Strong writing and reporting skills with knowledge of AP style
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with (or willingness to learn) photography, videography and digital publishing
• Curiosity, initiative and a genuine interest in community journalism
• Comfort working across both print and digital platforms
• Valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance required
• This position includes some night and weekend hours.
• The ability to produce timely, accurate reporting in today’s fast-moving digital news environment is essential.

Nice To Haves

• Journalism degree is preferred, but internships and relevant experience will be considered
• New graduates and early-career journalists are encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

• Report and write stories for both print and digital platforms
• Take photos and videos to accompany stories
• Post and optimize content for the web and social media
• Build sources and generate story ideas independently
• Help grow and engage our digital subscriber base
