About The Position

The Scottsbluff Star-Herald is seeking a versatile and motivated journalist to join our newsroom as a general assignment reporter. This position offers the opportunity to cover a wide range of stories — from breaking news and local government to education, community events and feature writing — in a community that values strong local journalism. This is true local reporting where your work makes a visible impact. We’re looking for someone who is curious, engaged and eager to tell the stories that matter to our readers.

Requirements

Be an enthusiastic, self-starting reporter with strong news judgment
Write clearly and accurately using AP style
Be comfortable with photography, videography and digital publishing tools
Engage with the community and build lasting relationships with sources
Be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
A valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance are required

Nice To Haves

A degree in journalism or a related field is preferred, but internships and relevant experience will be considered.
This position is open to early-career journalists and recent graduates looking to grow in a supportive newsroom environment
