About The Position

The State of Ohio is seeking a General Activities Therapist 2 (GAT2) to join their team at Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility. This role involves serving in an instructional capacity for youth, planning and implementing recreational activities, and acting as a member of the interdisciplinary team. The therapist will recommend group and/or individual treatment goals and activities, and prepare reports on youth behavior and progress. The position also requires preparing a weekly activity schedule and maintaining inventory records of equipment and materials. Requirements

  • 30 months of experience with coaching, personal training, and/or fitness instruction OR 30 months of experience providing work direction to incarcerated persons and training and/or development.
  • Completion of associate degree in recreation; and 12 months of experience in activity therapy or recreation.
  • Completion of undergraduate core program in recreation; and 6 months of experience in activity therapy or recreation.
  • 6 months of experience as General Activities Therapist 1, 44211.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

  • The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • All final candidates are required to attend 3 weeks of mandatory, paid training at the Correctional Training Academy in Orient, Ohio. This training is fully paid for and will cover lodging, transportation (if needed) and meals. Training takes place for 3 weeks, Monday through Thursday, 7AM to 5PM with Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays off.
