About The Position

The General Accountant for Olympia Development is responsible for providing general accounting support to the organization including but not limited to preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, month-end closing, supporting the budgeting and annual auditing processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and a minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the role.
  • Possess the highest integrity and ethical standards.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to understand processes and coordinates the process within the accounting rules
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • High level of resourcefulness, initiative, and good judgment, setting priorities and handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet software applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience with Yardi accounting software.

Responsibilities

  • Audits all expense reports for approval signatures, accuracy, reasonableness and compliance with corporate policies.
  • Handle online utility bill retrieval and payments for all properties.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable to review of bank reconciliations to investigate stale checks, payment issues and duplicate payment review.
  • Compile statistical, financial, accounting or auditing reports and tables pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses.
  • Participates in the monthly close process including preliminary review of financial statements, preparation and posting of adjusting journal entries, and explanation of budget to actual variances for assigned departments.
  • Assists in preparation of the annual budget through analysis of accounts, researching data, coordination with department leaders and compiling reports.
  • Act in accordance with corporate accounting policies and procedures; recommend new ideas or changes to current policies and procedures as needed.
  • Perform various duties assigned by management including special projects, cross train with other employees for back-up coverage, and assist in accounting support.
