About The Position

The Gelcoat A position applies gel coat to production hull and deck molds, liners, and small parts by using hand operated spray equipment. This role involves performing pre-spray checks of spray equipment and material, cleaning mold surfaces, operating spray guns to apply various coats of gel coat, and measuring specific amounts of gel coat with a mil gauge. The technician is also responsible for visual checks of gelcoat coverage, daily cleaning and minor maintenance of spray guns, and maintaining a clean, safe, and hazard-free work area.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent
Knowledge of various pistol grip type spray guns
Knowledge of hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and utility knives
Knowledge of spray pump systems
Ability to identify colors and shades
Ability to pass a respirator test and wear a respirator
Ability to wear PPE such as safety glasses with side shields and Tyvek suits
Ability to distinguish basic colors
Ability to distinguish shades of color
Hearing (aid permitted)

Responsibilities

Applies gel coat to production hull and deck molds, liners, and small parts using hand-operated spray equipment.
Performs pre-spray check of spray equipment and material.
Performs final cleaning of mold surfaces with a tack cloth.
Operates spray gun to apply various coats of gel coat to the molds.
Measures specific amounts of gel coat with a mil gauge.
Performs visual checks for percentage of coverage of gelcoat.
Performs daily cleaning and minor maintenance routines on spray guns.
Maintains clean, safe, and hazard-free work area.
