Gelcoat Repair Technician

About The Position

The Repair technician is responsible for repairing any issues on fiberglass hulls, decks and small parts in compliance with takt times. A variety of tasks are performed to repair each boat, requiring the use of both power and non-power hand tools.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior gel coat and/or autobody experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to use high-speed pneumatic/battery powered tools (buffers, power sander, etc.) and hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Spray and repair nonskid gel coat.
  • Sand and buff problem area to make a smooth, shiny surface.
  • Paint over thin or damaged areas of gel coat to create flawless surface being sure to match new finish to existing gel coat.
  • Ability to perform job functions safely and effectively in a fast-paced environment while wearing all required PPE and following safety policy and hazardous material guidelines.
  • Must practice good housekeeping by keeping work areas clean at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
