About The Position

Responsible for being fully knowledgeable in reading, math, science and social studies. Administers pre-tests at the various probation department sites. Works directly with students that are identified to be in need of remedial work to prepare them for the GED Exam. Provides individual instruction and tutoring as needed. Provides weekly progress reports to probation staff indicating progress. Assists with various job skills and introduction to higher education instruction as needed. Assisting and preparing for annual GED graduation. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • One-year practical experience in classroom teaching.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with education representatives in the community, program participants, various volunteers and other department employees.
  • Ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Applicant's criminal history must not reveal a felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years; a deferred adjudication for a felony against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years or current felony probation or parole.
  • Applicant's criminal history must not reveal a jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole.
  • Applicant must not be registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
