Incumbents make recommendations for actions involving formulation of rehabilitation plan and treatment of offender, including conditional release and education and employment stipulations. The role involves extensive case management, including initiating contact with youth, families, victims, and law enforcement, conducting home and school visits, gathering collateral information, and performing various screenings and assessments. Juvenile Probation Officers act as Department of Juvenile Justice representatives in court, preparing reports and testifying as needed. They are responsible for interventions and supervision, maintaining communication, assisting youth with mental health, substance abuse, and educational needs, providing crisis intervention, and helping youth establish and achieve personal goals. The position also requires thorough records management in the Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS) and active community collaboration to ensure familiarity with resources and participate in professional development.
