About The Position

The GEAR UP Case Manager provides comprehensive case management for the Casper College portion of the statewide consortium for the GEAR UP grant (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs). This is a full-time, benefited, 11-month position. The GEAR UP Case Manager is responsible for monitoring and maintaining a caseload of middle, high school, and/or college freshmen students for the GEAR UP grant at Casper College. GEAR UP Case Management is providing services to GEAR UP participants in the form of mentoring, tutoring and other various service types to students and their parents. Additionally, the GEAR UP Case Manager provides participant’s parents advising to assist students in their preparations for college. The GEAR UP Case Manager is also responsible for providing administrative and logistical support to the GEAR UP Regional Director by coordinating with Natrona County School District, maintaining databases, conducting research, preparing statistical reports, and handling information requests. GEAR UP is intended to significantly increase the number of low-income Natrona County students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. The program focuses on students grades seven through twelve, their families and schools in the county. It is intended that the program at Casper College serves a minimum of 280 students each year to achieve program objectives.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Social Work, Education, Social Sciences, or related field
Minimum of 1 year experience in Social Work, working with youth in education, or related field
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to transport ones’ self to off campus activities
CPR certification or ability to obtain within six months of employment
Authorize and have a successful screening background check for any record of allegations of child abuse or neglect through Natrona County School District Central Services
Valid motor vehicle license at the time of hire and must obtain a Wyoming driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
Must be insurable under the College’s insurance plan at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

Provide advising and GEAR UP services to students and parents during scheduled office hours and during “in-school” contact hours, including tutoring in various academic school subjects for middle and high school students (career exploration; mentoring for educational, behavioral, and life issues; academic counseling; postsecondary planning such as finding information on colleges, scholarships, application processes, etc).
Provide advising follow up and GEAR UP services to participants via text, email, and phone calls.
Maintain scheduled hours to provide a point of contact for students and parents and ensure attendance at regularly scheduled meetings, trainings, and workshops.
Serve as a liaison between the public K-12 school districts and Casper College GEAR UP to maintain up to date information about student enrollment and participation.
Assist with participant recruitment including conducting “cold calls”, regular follow-up, and program intakes to maintain appropriate participant case-load pursuant to Director’s expectations.
Create a positive environment where students can make discoveries about the importance of higher education, understand resources to prepare for college, and continue to access the GEAR UP support system
Encourage students to embrace personal responsibility, teamwork, and to master problem solving by planning and executing extracurricular activities and mentoring for students and their parents such as after school programs, tours, outings, tutoring, workshops, etc.
Plan, execute (or assist with), and supervise local and overnight field trip events and activities to provide opportunities for student exposure to college life, team building experiences, career possibilities. This includes remaining visible and accessible to students, following safety guidelines, resolving incidents, and coordinating meals, transportation, and accommodations.
Utilize a student database to input student data, run reports and analyze data.
Record detailed service notes about GEAR UP students and parent participation and progress.
Review and monitor GEAR UP students’ and parent’s participation and progress for continued eligibility and complete out processing in a timely manner.
Work closely with and assist all GEAR-UP staff members
Assist in financial record keeping and creation of monthly status reports, including recording and reporting grant matches, financial records, invoices, and budgets.
