Operate CNC Gleason gear generating equipment to manufacture precision gears in accordance with engineering drawings, gear specifications, work instructions, and shop floor documentation while maintaining quality and production standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with machining certificate from a reputable trade school preferred or demonstrated experience operating CNC gear generating equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of blueprint and gear drawing interpretation, gear terminology, use of precision measuring equipment, and general understanding of CNC machine programming and operation.
  • Familiarity with gear cutting principles, tooling, machine setup, and inspection methods.

Nice To Haves

  • Machining certificate from a reputable trade school
  • Experience with Gleason gear generators and gear manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and gear inspection equipment

Responsibilities

  • Follow setup sheets, work instructions, and programming documentation to set up and operate CNC Gleason gear generating machines to produce gears in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Install and true cutting tools, workholding fixtures, arbors, and machine tooling as required for each production run.
  • Verify machine offsets, tooling dimensions, and program parameters prior to production.
  • Operate CNC gear generating equipment efficiently to produce quality parts while meeting production schedules.
  • Verify shop floor documentation and engineering drawings are at the current revision level before beginning production.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, gear measurement equipment, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Monitor tool wear and machine performance, replacing or adjusting tooling as necessary to maintain product quality and maximize tool life.
  • Complete work orders in the order specified by the supervisor or shop scheduling system.
  • Record labor, production quantities, scrap, downtime, and inspection results in the shop floor scheduling system.
  • Identify and report machine malfunctions, tooling issues, and quality concerns to the Area Lead or Maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain required coolant levels, lubrication systems, and perform routine operator preventive maintenance.
  • Follow all safety requirements. Read, understand, and always follow job-specific JSA and work in a safe manner.
  • Sustain the 5S ratings of the work area.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and equipment performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
