About The Position

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW The Chief Accountant's Department is responsible for TD Bank Group's (TDBG) consolidated financial statements and selected regulatory filing for the Canadian subsidiaries. The Chief Accountant's team ensures that all these filings are accurate, timely and compliant with the accounting and regulatory requirements set by different governing bodies. The Global Controls Office (GCO), within the Chief Accountant's Department supports the Controller and Chief Accountant in fulfilling their controllership mandate. The GCO leads the Bank’s Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) and disclosure controls programs, providing guidance, monitoring progress, and forming conclusions that support executive certifications. We are also responsible for setting up policies governing financial reporting controls and providing oversight on compliance with these policies. The objective of these policies is to control financial reporting risks across the organization to promote accuracy of financial reporting. Update and enhance policies/guidelines as required and complete change management. Key policies include TDBG General Ledger Account Reconciliation and Attestation Policy and the Common Chart of Accounts Governance Policy Partner with business segments on projects and/or initiatives that require policy expertise. Providing support in the interpretation and/or practical application of the Policies Creation, implementation and oversight of quality control testing guidelines for several financial reporting policies. Support training of policies and guidelines Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICFR) Maintain an accurate and complete inventory of relevant ICFR and disclosure controls. Manage a semi-annual ICFR control attestation process for all in-scope controls Support the development of the Annual Testing Plan by providing assessments on items such as SOX materiality calculations, in-scope cycle risk ratings and scoping conclusions As needed, support the ICFR Testing Team in the execution of the annual test schedule, including management of scoping decisions. Partner with the ICFR Program Management Team in ensuring that ICFR Methodology, Policies, and Procedures, including templates, training material etc. are reviewed and approved periodically Disclaimer: 90% of the role's responsibilities focus on the described core functions above, while the remaining 10% encourages the associate to engage in TD-wide initiatives, program events, training and other organizational activities that contribute to professional growth and team collaboration.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting (CPA/CIA path preferred), Analytics, Data, Business/Commerce or related field; with the intent of going back to school at the end of your work term (requirement of all co-op/intern positions)
  • Must be detailed oriented and quick to apply new concepts
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate clearly with various stakeholders at various levels of seniority
  • Good understanding of financial statement assertions and their practical application in controls
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective and collaborative working relationships with cross-functional teams and business partners
  • Proven analytical skills and sound judgment
  • Ability to operate as a working lead on initiatives as assigned
  • High personal standards for quality and accuracy
  • Excellent project management and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines, multiple tasks and adapt well to changing priorities
  • Proactive and highly motivated individual who will take the initiative and who can work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to work with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel software.
