About The Position

CMTA offers a robust co-op program for college students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Architectural Engineering, focusing on engineering design for the built environment. This program provides an opportunity for students to immerse themselves for one or more semesters in the consulting engineering world, building industry-competitive skills in a hands-on environment. Co-ops work on a team, are trained by Professional Engineers in AutoCAD and Revit, and create real construction drawings for CMTA projects. This is a full-time (40 hrs./week), onsite position with a competitive hourly pay rate and eligibility for overtime pay. The position starts in August 2026 and continues through Fall 2026, with flexible dates to accommodate school calendars. CMTA hopes that co-op students will complete multiple rotations, with potential consideration for full-time employment upon graduation. This role offers unique hands-on training in mechanical/HVAC/Energy design. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Engineers will teach the co-op how to design and implement mechanical systems/infrastructure and energy-efficient measures in building projects, providing an opportunity to work on challenging and complex MEP projects as an important part of the design team.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering, preferably a sophomore (2nd year), or junior (3rd year)
  • Strong interest in Building Systems Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team
  • Ability to work full time in our office throughout the co-op term
  • Ability to travel locally for job site inspections, field work, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • AutoCAD and REVIT experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed layout and equipment details of HVAC systems
  • Produce one-line diagrams/schematics
  • Assist the design team in the process of assembling organized sets of drawings
  • May assist in the data collection and/or field verification
  • Work in conjunction with designers and engineers to help develop all aspects of a project
