About The Position

The Gauge Maintenance Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, inspection, and repair of stream gauge stations and associated telemetry equipment across an assigned network of field sites. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the continuous collection of accurate hydrologic data used for the Flood Inundation Mapping and Alert Network (FIMAN).

Requirements

Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

Experience in performing complex technical work inspecting, testing, and/or repairing water level.
Experience installing water level gauges or similar equipment.
Experience in developing reports concerning project status.
Experience in maintaining detailed records.
Experience performing analysis of findings.

Responsibilities

Conduct routine site visits to inspect, calibrate, and service stream gauge instrumentation
Install, replace, and repair data loggers, solar panels, batteries, antennas, and cellular/satellite/VHF communication equipment
Identify and troubleshoot data transmission failures, sensor malfunctions, and stale or erroneous data readings
Document site visits, equipment changes, and maintenance actions in the station records database
Coordinate with landowners, local governments, and partner agencies regarding site access and maintenance activities
Communicate equipment status and emerging data quality issues to supervisors and data management staff
Support emergency response operations during flood events, including high water mark collection
Assist survey crew as necessary and collect benchmarks
