The primary role of the Gateway Newcomer Planner is to support newcomers in their settlement journey, empowering clients to reach their dreams and goals in Canada. This is done through conducting comprehensive needs assessments, developing personalized plans, providing tailored referrals, and holding orientation sessions and educational workshops. In addition, the planner provides support for a range of newcomer settlement challenges while offering the necessary first language interpretation/translation services.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada to be considered for this position.
  • Undergraduate degree in Social Sciences, Business, or related discipline. A combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
  • Experience working with immigrant and/or refugee families.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of complex needs (i.e., refugees, disabilities, and domestic violence).
  • Strong knowledge of community programs and resources, including employability and the local labour market.
  • Experience conducting the Standardized Needs and Assets Assessment and developing personalized [settlement] plans.
  • Experience in developing, coordinating, facilitating, and conducting presentations/workshops.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity – Previous experience working across various cultural and language groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and cope with rapidly changing scenarios.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Salesforce, and knowledge of meeting platforms (Teams).

Responsibilities

  • Serve newcomers to Canada, both virtually & in-person, in a positive, culturally sensitive, and constructive manner through the settlement process.
  • Assist clients in identifying and assessing needs and assets, developing a personalized plan, and referring clients to appropriate programs and services.
  • Provide newcomers with practical and accessible up-to-date settlement information (e.g., housing, schooling, employment, childcare, health care etc.) to clients.
  • Support clients in overcoming barriers to settlement and accelerating the integration process through providing information and resources.
  • Follow up on client’s progress and integration into the community, and advocate for clients when required.
  • Liaise with community members and agencies, promoting Gateway services, while facilitating client access to these agencies.
  • Perform ongoing outreach activities to various ethno-cultural/community groups (e.g., social media groups, community centers, places of worship etc.) to increase newcomer clientele.
  • Accurately entering client information and service recordings into Sales Force, in a timely manner.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate group sessions to build newcomers’ knowledge in areas such as healthcare, recreation, education, housing, Canadian law, immigration, and financial literacy, including required evaluations and outcome measurements, as assigned by the Team Lead or Manager.
  • Prepare and submit regular update reports as requested by team lead and manager.
  • Mentor /train new Gateway Newcomer Planners about daily work routines and service delivery process.
  • Other duties as required.
