About The Position

The Newcomer Youth Employment Coach will work with newcomer youth in Niagara to prepare participants to identify suitable “first job” employment opportunities in Canada, assist with job search and job maintenance skills development, as well as facilitate comprehension of Ontario Employer Legislation (ESA). Requirements

  • Experience working with a diverse group of youth and adults; solid understanding of diversity and various cultures; additional language an asset
  • Experience with and knowledge of community resources throughout the Niagara Region
  • Minimum 2 years experience employment counseling and facilitating
  • Good interpersonal, presentation and organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills (date entry, iCARE, MS Office Suite and virtual learning platforms)
  • Must have valid driver’s license and a vehicle, as travel around the Niagara area is a requirement of the role
  • Upon hiring, applicants 18 years of age and older must obtain a clear and satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) issued for the YMCA of Niagara

Responsibilities

  • Conduct presentations within local high schools to 150 newcomer youth annually
  • Assist 50 youth in securing employment annually
  • Counsel, assess and monitor participants while clarifying employment and education needs
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with all School Boards in Niagara to better support newcomer youth in job searching activities
  • Participate in activities such as intake interviews, assessments and workshop facilitation
  • Support and coach clients through the job search process as well as job maintenance
  • Assist participants to establish short and long term employment goals
  • Monitor and follow up with participants’ progress
  • Facilitate access to services and resources where there are barriers due to language, gender, age, culture and race.
  • Maintain updated information on services and resources and policies that are relevant to school boards and community settlement process
  • Maintain up-to-date client files and statistical information and ensure the confidentiality of client information
  • Complete reporting in iCARE (government case management system) and assist leadership in preparation of narrative reports as required by contribution agreements.
  • Maintain accurate records and statistics related to case management and outcomes achieved
  • Work with Niagara Settlement agencies for client recruitment, referrals and support
  • Understand and be able to deliver information regarding Employer legislation (AODA, ESA, OHSA etc.) to newcomer youth
  • Participate in training and adhere to the YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures as established by the YMCA of Niagara
