About The Position

The Air Gateway manual and defined Best Practices outline the expectations, requirements and standards of each Import and Export Gateway operation. The Gateway Manager is responsible to ensure that these policies are adhered to at all times. This role involves leading and managing all Air Gateway import and export operations in accordance with JAS policies, procedures, and established best practices. The Gateway Manager will ensure the highest levels of service quality and operational performance are delivered to internal branch customers, overseas partners, and external stakeholders. This position will develop and execute operational strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and cost management within the gateway operation, oversee scheduled consolidation services and ensure timely, accurate movement of freight to domestic and international destinations. The role also coordinates export consolidations and provides operational support and communication to U.S. stations and global network partners. Building and maintaining strong relationships with airlines, carriers, and service providers to support capacity requirements and service objectives is crucial. The Gateway Manager will negotiate pricing, service agreements, and operational parameters with carriers to support gateway and organizational goals, monitor carrier performance and ensure service failures are promptly addressed, communicated, and documented. This role will implement, maintain, and improve operational procedures, communication standards, and customer service processes. The Gateway Manager will manage departmental budgets and support financial objectives through cost control and operational optimization, and partner with Operations, Finance, Human Resources, and Compliance teams to effectively resolve operational, personnel, and administrative matters. Ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, security protocols, and work instructions is essential. The role involves analyzing operational metrics and developing action plans to drive continuous improvement and performance excellence. Additional duties and special projects may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of air freight forwarding and gateway operations.
  • Proven leadership and team development skills.
  • Ability to drive operational efficiency and process improvement.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience managing carrier performance and service execution.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, cost control, and financial management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and transportation systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, Transportation, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and industry experience will be considered.
  • 5-7 years of freight forwarding, transportation, or logistics experience.
  • 4+ years of Gateway, HUB, or air freight consolidation operations experience.
  • 4+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of domestic and international transportation networks, routing, and cargo movement.
  • Experience negotiating carrier agreements and managing airline relationships.
  • Experience managing KPIs and driving operational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of employee lifecycle activities, including recruiting, onboarding, performance evaluations, employee relations, corrective actions, and succession planning in partnership with Human Resources.
