About The Position

The Town of Smithfield is seeking responsible, personable, and detail-oriented individuals to serve as Gate Guard / Maintenance staff at our beach facilities. Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager and Recreation Supervisor, this position ensures the beach pavilion and surrounding facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and welcoming condition. This role requires strong customer interaction, enforcement of beach regulations, and pride in maintaining the appearance and operation of the beach. Beach hours are 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, seven days a week from mid-June to Labor Day.

Requirements

Ability to work an 8-hour shift.
Ability to work up to 40 hours per week.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work cooperatively with other staff.
Ability to operate communication devices appropriately.

Responsibilities

Enforce beach seasonal passes and sell day passes (Georgiaville Beach only).
Enforce parking stickers, boat permit stickers, and trailer permit stickers (Georgiaville Beach only).
Enforce residency requirements for facility use (Slack’s Beach only).
Direct customers to appropriate parking areas and manage parking order.
Clean beach area and pavilion during and at the end of scheduled shifts.
Safely operate the beach gate and keep the surrounding area clean and orderly.
Assist with trash removal and assure grounds are kept in good condition.
Maintain restrooms, pavilions, and picnic areas.
Participate in coordinating community beach activities (arts & crafts, special events, etc.).
Report problems or safety concerns to the Recreation Supervisor or Manager as needed.
Work with the Recreation Supervisor and Smithfield Police Department daily on facility operation and compliance.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
