About The Position

The Tanker Driver delivers hazmat and non-hazmat petroleum products, including fuels and lubricants, to specified locations. The driver must follow applicable Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and hazardous-material regulations; maintain accurate delivery and compliance documentation; and provide effective customer service. The role requires safe driving, sound organization, teamwork, and a certified DOT medical report clearing the driver to operate commercial vehicles. Two years of petroleum experience is preferred. Schedules and working conditions may vary with traffic, weather, supply, equipment, and dispatch needs. In addition to driving, duties include coupling and uncoupling trailers; loading and unloading with hoses or loading heads; and inspecting equipment. The work involves frequent cab entry and exit, climbing trailer ladders, stooping, bending, crouching to inspect vehicles, lifting the hood, and repetitive clutch and brake use. Uniforms are supplied, and hard-toed footwear is required. The work may involve exposure to outdoor elements such as wind and rain.

Requirements

Valid driver's license and a clear driving record for the past three years.
Class A license with Tank and Hazmat endorsements.
Clear DOT medical report.
Successfully complete pre-employment drug screening and background check; pass DOT drug tests when requested.
Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
Able to speak, read, write, and understand English sufficiently to communicate effectively with customers and team members.
Able to route deliveries using maps or GPS and understand the local geographical area.
Knowledge of applicable tank-driver, hazmat, DOT, and FMCSA hours-of-service regulations.
Knowledge of transporting a fluid load.
Able to perform the physical tasks of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, handling hoses or loading heads that may weigh up to 50 pounds when full, climbing trailer ladders, and stooping, bending, and crouching during inspections.
Maintain awareness and alertness and make decisions and solve problems.
Meet DOT vision requirements.

Responsibilities

Deliver petroleum products safely to specified locations.
Couple and uncouple trailers and load or unload product using hoses or loading heads.
Inspect transport equipment before, during, and at the end of each shift.
Complete, record, and sign all documentation required by DOT.
Accurately account for products delivered and calculate tank capacity before each delivery.
Use the FMCSA-required electronic logging program and follow FMCSA hours-of-service rules.
Analyze deliveries to ensure they can be completed safely.
Follow applicable DOT, hazmat, and tank-driver regulations.
Arrive on time and in a clean, proper uniform; ensure the team is properly uniformed as directed.
Attend required training, safety courses, and office and departmental meetings.
Report safety hazards, follow up to ensure they are corrected, and help maintain a safe work environment.
Route deliveries using maps or GPS and seek directional information when needed.
Perform additional tasks requested or assigned by Tanker Dispatch.
