About The Position

Reporting to a Supervisor or Manager, the Gate Attendant is responsible for accurately and efficiently monitoring and recording waste volumes entering the post-collection site, as well as collecting appropriate usage fees from customers. At certain work locations, the Gate Attendant will also be responsible for ensuring the coordination of drivers and equipment to create capacity, maximize productivity and ensure prompt, courteous and efficient service to all customers.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in the waste services, environmental services or oilfield services industry.
  • 1 year of experience driving or dispatching heavy commercial vehicles.
  • Experience as a lab technician with knowledge of lab procedures and equipment such as TDS/Chloride meter, special lab tubes and beakers and fluid testing.
  • Experience in a customer-facing position.

Responsibilities

  • Answers telephone and provides general information to callers and routes calls to appropriate staff.
  • Accepts or rejects waste load based on content; suggests alternatives based on special waste, type of waste and/or local market training
  • Receives payment from customers; provides receipt to customers.
  • Documents the waste entering the facility, utilizing truck scales and computer systems; tracks total amount of waste entering the facility.
  • Notifies operations of special waste or other incoming special loads; directs or dispatches as necessary; processes required paperwork and performs other required duties, as necessary to process special loads.
  • Completes Federal, State and Local Compliance reports as required by regulations or permit.
  • Collects samples and tests the leachate detection systems (LDS) & leachate collection systems (LCS); tracks the information in a weekly form for state compliance.
  • Collects samples from incoming loads and ensures all paint filters and spinouts are completed and tracked.
  • Ensures office/lab inventory is current and orders supplies as needed.
  • Creates work orders for the shop.
  • Collects completed work orders and enters data into tracking spreadsheet.
  • Effectively schedules trucks to optimize overall efficiency.
  • Monitors route time intervals for gaps.
  • Incorporates journey management into driver scheduling.
  • Balances the distribution of hours between drivers, sub-contractors and third-party vendors.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
