About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) nationally recognized Department of Pathology and Laboratory medicine seeks a Gastrointestinal/ Hepatic Pathologist. MUSC is a tertiary care hospital with active transplantation, molecular diagnostics and cytogenetics services, as well as an apheresis service. Our Department has approximately $5 million dollars in extramural funding annually and is consistently ranked in the upper half of pathology departments in the United States for National Institutes of Health funding.

Requirements

• MD, DO, or equivalent degree with pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
• Subspecialty training and/or experience in gastrointestinal pathology
• Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina

Nice To Haves

• Additional subspecialty expertise in Cytology desired
• Academically oriented candidate

Responsibilities

• Participates in very busy, gastrointestinal, hepatic, and pancreatic pathology service at the MUSC Digestive Disease Center
• Works with both biopsy and resection specimens in addition to general surgical pathology
• Covers general frozen section services
• Shares general surgical pathology call
• Fosters collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers.
• Instructs medical students, participates in the training of pathology residents and gastroenterology fellows, and actively participates in the academic mission of the NCI-designed Hollings Cancer Center programs.
• The relative percent effort for research, teaching, administrative duties, and patient care responsibilities will be tailored to the successful applicant's experience and career goals.
