About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for a Gastroenterology MD/DO position. The role requires 24/7 call coverage for 3 facilities, including consults, GI procedures (ERCP and EUS), inpatient rounding, and discharges. The physician must be proficient in both EUS and ERCP procedures. The average daily patient load includes 10 new consults and 10 procedures. The average census across all three facilities is 40-50 patients. ED consults, routed through the office, average 2-3 per day. The patient population is primarily adult (95%) with a small percentage of pediatric patients (adult-sized patients under 18 years) (5%). The EMR system used is EPIC. Credentialing takes approximately 60 days, with temporary privileges available.

Requirements

  • Active Pennsylvania licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS certification
  • Minimum 1-year Gastroenterology experience or equivalent
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school
  • Residency training program in internal medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  • Board certification in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the AOA
  • Active and unrestricted medical license in Pennsylvania

  • Fellowship training in Gastroenterology (may be preferred depending on the position)

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive medical care to patients across a variety of clinical settings, including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic conditions
  • Conduct thorough patient histories, physical examinations, and clinical assessments
  • Order, interpret, and review diagnostic testing including laboratory work, imaging, and other studies as appropriate
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment and care plans based on patient needs and evidence-based practices
  • Prescribe medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions within scope of practice
  • Manage ongoing patient care, including follow-up evaluations and coordination of treatment plans
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and quality of care
  • Document patient encounters, treatment plans, and clinical findings accurately and in compliance with facility standards
  • Respond to patient concerns and provide education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive care
  • Maintain compliance with facility policies, credentialing requirements, and applicable regulatory standards
  • Adapt quickly to new clinical environments, workflows, and electronic medical record systems
  • Stay current on medical advancements, clinical guidelines, and best practices through continuing medical education and professional development
