The Gasoline Engine Calibration Engineer develops, tests, and validates vehicle-based calibrations to achieve fuel economy and drivability targets while meeting current and future emissions standards. The engineer plans, generates, and verifies feature calibrations in hot- and cold-climate conditions and at high altitude, in accordance with powertrain system functional objectives, and prepares reports communicating program status. The role involves analyzing large and complex engine-mapping datasets to identify and solve system problems related to engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, on-board diagnostics (OBD), and base-engine calibration. The engineer works cross-functionally with engine development, powertrain controls, and vehicle teams to develop calibration solutions that meet drivability and emissions requirements. The role also evaluates engine and after-treatment hardware and technologies for future applications, contributes to hardware and calibration development processes and procedures, and presents assignment summaries, detailed reports, and timing projections to management, product design, and systems teams. The position combines multiple engineering disciplines to develop hardware and calibrate the engine management systems of the company’s engines. Travel of 4–6 weeks throughout the year is expected for system validation and verification.
