The Gasoline Engine Calibration Engineer develops, tests, and validates vehicle-based calibrations to achieve fuel economy and drivability objectives while meeting current and future emission standards. The role plans, generates, and verifies feature calibrations in hot and cold climates and at high altitude, in accordance with powertrain system functional objectives. It also generates reports communicating program status to the larger team. The engineer analyzes large and complex engine-mapping datasets to identify and solve system problems involving engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, OBD, and base-engine calibration development. Working cross-functionally with engine development, powertrain controls, and vehicle teams, the engineer identifies and implements calibration solutions that meet program drivability and emissions requirements. The position evaluates new engine and after-treatment hardware and technologies for future applications, contributes to standard hardware and calibration-development processes and procedures, and participates in meetings with management, product design, and systems teams. The engineer presents summaries and detailed reports on assignments, including timing projections. The work combines multiple engineering disciplines to develop hardware and calibrate the engine management system of company-produced engines. Travel of 4–6 weeks throughout the year is expected for system validation and verification.
