Operability in jet engine engineering is a cross-functional discipline focused on ensuring a gas turbine engine operates safely, stably, and reliably across its entire intended flight envelope, spanning from sub-idle to maximum power and for various environmental conditions. It acts as an integrator between performance (efficiency), compressor aerodynamics, aircraft inlet design, engine control systems and more, to ensure that high-performance designs do not suffer from instabilities like compressor stall/surge, combustor blowout, or over-temperature conditions.
