About The Position

CenterPoint Energy is seeking a Gas Specialist Apprentice to perform gas utility construction work activities according to classification. Requirements

Requires a high school diploma or Equivalent.
Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
Must be able to work safely outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions.
Must be located with 35 driving miles of the Operating Center.
Must be willing to work overtime and serve on standby service watch.
Possess a CDL or be willing to obtain one within six (6) months of hire.
Ability to safely stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work at ground level and in excavations for extended periods.
Perform physical labor associated with gas main installations, leak investigations, leak surveys, and related utility construction work.
Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment used in gas utility operations.
Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to approximately 75 pounds on an occasional basis.
Work may require working in trenches, excavations, and around active gas facilities.
Ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment.
Required to always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work is performed within a defined service territory, and employees must reside within 35 driving miles of the assigned Operating Center.
Position is considered safety-sensitive and subject to applicable company policies and regulatory requirements.

Nice To Haves

HVAC experience preferred.
Mechanical aptitude preferred.

Responsibilities

Operate equipment used to perform main installations, leak investigations, and leak surveys.
Serve on a 24-hour emergency watch periodically.
Perform gas utility construction work activities according to classification.
