Gas Lead

Fluidstack•Austin, TX
•$203,000 - $357,000

About The Position

Fluidstack is seeking a Gas Lead to support the development of behind-the-meter power for multi-hundred-megawatt data center campuses. The role focuses on securing generation and fuel arrangements, assessing site and equipment risks, and coordinating work across teams from site selection through energization. The Gas Lead will translate technical and commercial analysis into clear recommendations and identify cost and schedule exposure for leadership.

Requirements

  • Personally negotiated behind-the-meter PPAs, tolling agreements, or heat rate options with economics that held through project finance and final deal terms.
  • Negotiated gas supply agreements and managed fixed-price, index, and basis exposure; understands fuel constraints that can affect plant dispatch.
  • Diligenced gas-fired sites across pipeline access, fuel deliverability, air permits, and power delivery.
  • Compared generation technologies using heat rate, spark-spread economics, and reliability analysis that informed equipment decisions.
  • Built techno-economic models for deals and defended sensitivities to lenders, investors, or executives.
  • Can coordinate across engineering, legal, finance, and operations and communicate technical questions clearly as decisions and next steps.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience across multiple power markets, such as ERCOT, PJM, MISO, or WECC.
  • Plant dispatch and fuel optimization experience with a generator, asset manager, or trading desk.
  • Large-load and utility interconnection experience.
  • Pipeline capacity and midstream contracting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate behind-the-meter power purchase agreements (PPAs), tolling agreements, and heat rate options with generation owners and developers.
  • Negotiate gas supply, transportation, and basis arrangements to secure fuel pricing and deliverability for each behind-the-meter site before construction begins.
  • Evaluate prospective gas sites for pipeline access, fuel constraints, air permitting, and power delivery risk before lease commitment.
  • Assess generation equipment, including turbines and reciprocating engines, based on heat rate, availability, lead time, emissions, and delivered cost, and recommend options to leadership.
  • Coordinate development, engineering, legal, and finance from site selection through executed supply contracts and energization.
  • Identify cost and schedule exposure and raise it before it reaches leadership.
  • Build techno-economic models for deals and defend their sensitivities to lenders, investors, or executives.
  • Coordinate across engineering, legal, finance, and operations, and distill technical questions into decisions and next steps for the CEO.
