About The Position

This position is a multiskilled, maintenance technician role that requires qualifications within both the Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical family and within the Mechanical maintenance family. This position supports the safe, reliable operation of a combined cycle generating facility by performing mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls maintenance activities. The position is responsible for monitoring equipment performance, troubleshooting and repairing plant systems, supporting equipment startups and shutdowns, and following approved operating, safety, environmental, and Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically and technically capable, comfortably working in a team-oriented plant environment, and able to learn quickly while supporting routine, planned, and emergent maintenance needs across the facility. Location: Anderson County Combined Cycle Plant staff will be located at W. S. Lee Combined Cycle until the Anderson County facilities are available in 2029.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma/GED
  • Demonstrates mechanical, electrical or l&C experience.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Working knowledge of the overall operating fundamentals and principles of generating station systems, equipment and processes
  • Must have the ability to work within a team-oriented environment and demonstrate team interface skills.
  • Demonstrates basic computer skills utilizing windows applications, emails and work management software.
  • Demonstrates skills, attitude and ability to work safely.
  • Demonstrates positive work attitude, initiative and the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly and work independently without the need of close supervision, but can also function well in a team environment.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must successfully complete EEI's Plant Operator Selection System (POSS), and Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS)
  • Must successfully complete a Power Plant Physical Abilities Assessment
  • Required to pass a medical physical including a respirator fit test
  • Ability to successfully complete levels of Employee Development and Qualification Program training.
  • Ability to work around equipment that generates electromagnetic fields (EMF).
  • This position contains a weight restriction of 325 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.

  • Experience and/or training with Ovation / WDPF control systems, and/or PLCs.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to monitor and troubleshoot equipment in fluid system operation (pumps, valves, boilers, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience or training in computer-controlled equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and control logic.
  • Must be proficient with computers, software applications and plant work management software and tools such as Microsoft packages that include word, excel, power point. In addition, experience with maintenance management systems such as Maximo, Passport or equivalent.
  • Additional years of experience with combustion turbine technology.
  • Experience with mechanical and electronic field testing equipment
  • Experience with digital control systems, programmable logic controllers, and multi-fueled technologies
  • Knowledge of heavy lifting cranes and rigging requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical maintenance activities on power plant equipment, such as motors, breakers, transformers, electrical relays, switchyards, contactors, etc.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair on instrumentation, control systems and electrical systems and equipment.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair on Ovation / WDPF control systems, and/or PLCs.
  • Perform calibration of equipment.
  • Perform all forms of cutting, use of a torch and welding tasks.
  • Perform rigging and lifting operations.
  • Perform precision inspections/overhauls/rebuilds of pumps, valves, fans, mills, compressors, etc.
  • Trained and knowledgeable in the safe use of hand tools, power tools and electrical maintenance equipment (e.g. hammers, sockets, electrical meters, grounds, etc.).
  • Work safely and effectively in a team environment.
  • Adhere to all station safety and environmental programs and procedures.
  • Ability to operate station vehicles such as forklifts, tractors and trucks.
  • Utilize computers and/or tablets to perform basic functions such timesheet entry, complete computer-based training modules, read company email, closeout work orders in Maximo etc.
  • Check and monitor plant equipment and systems daily to ensure proper operation and detect problems as they occur. This includes checking oil levels, pressures, temperatures, flows, unusual noises, vibration, overheating, leaks, cleanliness, etc.
  • Execute equipment startups and shutdowns of all major and auxiliary equipment and systems in the plant following approved operating procedures
  • Able to line up systems for various modes of operation (e.g. startup, shutdown, low load, emergency, etc.)
  • Inspect equipment and be able to identify problems
  • Perform and follow Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures on equipment such as HRSGs, steam turbines, gas turbines, pumps valves, chillers and high voltage equipment
  • Ability to read and understand technical OEM manuals, recommendations and warranty agreements
  • Ability to read and understand technical mechanical, civil, and electrical drawings
