About The Position

The District of Sechelt is seeking a dedicated Gardener to help keep our parks, streetscapes, and community spaces healthy, safe, and thriving. Reporting to the Manager of Community Services and working under the direction of the Parks Foreman, the Parks Gardener plans and organizes grounds maintenance projects for District parks, streetscapes, and green spaces. The role includes directing labourers in grounds maintenance activities and performing a range of maintenance, arboriculture, and landscaping duties.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 completion (or equivalent)
  • A one‑year certificate in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • A minimum of three (3) years of related experience in gardening, landscaping, or similar work
  • A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a clean driver’s abstract
  • A professional, positive, and responsive work attitude
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • The ability to interact professionally and courteously with the public
  • The ability to safely and competently operate a variety of garden and power tools, tractors, mowers, watering equipment, and vehicles up to one (1) ton
  • Physical capacity to exert, sustain, and repeat the physical and mental effort required to complete assignments in all types of weather

Nice To Haves

  • Horticulture and arboriculture knowledge and experience
  • Experience working in a municipal government environment
