About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Gardener II – Horticulture Exterior is to provide care and maintenance to exterior landscape. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures. This is a safety-related position.

Requirements

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada Driver's License and any other certification or license, as required by law or policy.
  • 5 years of experience in exterior ornamental landscape.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and implementing proper cultural practices for sustainable landscape.
  • Demonstrated experience in plant material identification and maintenance, irrigation maintenance and repair, pest control application and identification.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in spoken and written form.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Lift or carry 50 pounds, unassisted, in the performance of specific tasks, as assigned.
  • Physically access all areas of the property and drive areas with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and consistently meet deadlines with internal and external customers and contacts.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with guests, management, other team members, and outside contacts.
  • Ability for prolonged periods of time to walk, stand, stretch, bend and kneel.
  • Work in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the aesthetic appearance of the exterior landscaped areas, by planting, transplanting, fertilizing, watering, pruning, weeding, and apply chemicals as needed.
  • Maintain annuals, trees, and shrubs by exercising proper horticultural practices.
  • Ensure appropriate pest management and irrigation management practices.
  • Use a variety of manual hand tools and power equipment such as rakes, loppers, hand saws, pruning shears, shovels, hose, pesticide sprayers, blowers, chainsaws, and hedge shears to complete tasks.
  • Report lost or damaged property, equipment and/or tools to manager.
  • Remove and dispose of litter found in planters.
  • Inspect work area to identify any potential safety hazards and follows all safety, corporate, and department policies while ensuring the landscape meets appearance standards.
  • Work in an appropriate non-hazardous manner avoiding self-injury and unsafe work methods.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of product and supplies.
  • Drive company vehicles and/or specialized carts to transport materials and equipment as needed.
  • Maintain certifications to operate material handling and aerial lift equipment such as boom and scissor lifts, utility carts, forklift, and pallet jack.
  • Use two-way radio while in the field.
  • Complete and submits plant and supply request to Manager.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in all public and common work areas.
  • Train and guide Gardener I and new Team Members in job related duties and appearance standards.
  • Safety is an essential function of this job.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
