About The Position

This role is for a Garden Store Cashier, with both part-time and full-time seasonal openings available. The position requires a friendly, mature, and professional demeanor, with a strong focus on customer service. Responsibilities include operating a cash register, answering phones, assisting customers with product selection, and performing routine cleaning duties. The environment is fast-paced and customer-oriented, requiring adaptability, multitasking, and stress management. Teamwork and a willingness to learn are essential.

Requirements

2-3 years Retail Sales Experience
2-3 years Cash Register & Money Handling
Ability to constantly lift 50lbs.
Ability to stand for 8 hours a day.
Reliable transportation is necessary.

Previous Garden Center Experience
General knowledge of yard work, landscaping and maintenance tasks
General plant knowledge with flowers, shrubs, trees, houseplants
General knowledge of a vegetable garden and taking care of flower pots
General knowledge of fertilizers and chemicals with the desire to pay attention, listen and learn.

Responsibilities

Greets customers with a friendly, mature, professional demeanor.
Stays near the cash register, monitoring customer traffic.
Answers the garden store phone, fields calls, and transfers calls on a multi-line phone system.
Takes messages for staff and other departments.
Handles customer questions in-person and over the phone with a positive attitude, problem-solving skills, critical thinking abilities, and tactfulness.
Assists with general product selection with customers.
Maintains a positive, upbeat, calm demeanor in fast-paced settings and adapts to an ever-changing customer-oriented environment.
Operates a cash register computer system with strong typing skills and handles money.
Performs routine cleaning duties to maintain the store for the public.
Assists with stocking purposes and helping customers.
Works with others while using discretion with constant talking.
Follows direction, takes instruction, and shows a desire to learn.
Handles varying temperatures and weather conditions, including exposure to dirt, dust, water, plant material, grass seed, and bird seed.
Handles sensitive materials such as onions, garlic, grass seed, and plant material.
