About The Position

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is seeking Garbage Truck-Collection Helpers for their Stamford, CT facility. This role offers a starting pay of $17.50/hr plus overtime. For individuals aiming to become commercial drivers, a year in this Helper role could lead to placement in the Helper to CDL Driver training program. The position involves steady, year-round work, Monday through Friday with occasional Saturday hours, and an early start time between 4 am and 5 am. Requirements

Must meet physical standards as specified in the job description (constant lifting, pushing, and pulling of waste bags and receptacles weighing approximately 50-75+ lbs; ability to physically mount and dismount the truck throughout the workday).
Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
Position requires a team-player attitude as job is spent in close quarters with other staff members that all rely on one another.
Must include resumes/list of work history with employment dates to be considered for employment.
Must have a history of showing up and being on-time for work every day.

Responsibilities

Collect (primarily by hand) and load refuse from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle.
Transfer refuse in a timely and safe manner from customer stops to vehicle.
Assist the driver while maneuvering into positions for collection and disposal.
Maintain and partake in daily clean-up of vehicle.
Learn garbage routes to better assist driver.
Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings.
