About The Position

Interstate Waste Services is hiring Garbage Truck-Collection Helpers in Paterson, NJ. This is a year-round, steady work position with an early start time of 4:20 am. The work involves collecting and loading refuse from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle. The position reports to the Operations Manager onsite but is also subject to supervision by Route Supervisors and Dispatchers. Interstate Waste Services is a progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services, serving Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, New York City, and recently expanded into Pennsylvania and Ohio. Their mission is to provide high-quality waste, recycling, and environmental services while prioritizing employee, customer, and environmental safety.

Requirements

• Must meet physical standards as specified in the job description (constant lifting, pushing, and pulling of waste bags/receptacles weighing approximately 50-75+ lbs., ability to physically mount and dismount the truck throughout the workday).
• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
• Must have a team-player attitude as the job is spent in close quarters with other staff members.
• Must have a history of steady employment.
• Must have a history of showing up and being on-time for work every day.
• Must be able to perform very physical work.
• Must include a resume/list of work history with employment dates to be considered for employment.

Responsibilities

• Collect (primarily by hand) and load refuse from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle.
• Transfer refuse in a timely and safe manner from customer stops to vehicle.
• Assist the driver while maneuvering into positions for collection and disposal.
• Maintain and partake in daily clean-up of vehicle.
• Learn garbage routes to better assist driver.
• Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings.
