Under general supervision, this position performs various kinds of skilled and unskilled work in connection with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of automotive and mobile or stationary, heavy-duty equipment, including any associated components and equipment. The individual must have a working knowledge of the operation and construction of internal combustion engines and hydraulic assemblies. They must also possess the ability to diagnose operating deficiencies of automotive and hydraulic equipment and the mechanical ability to install new and maintain equipment for all types of work related to the Transportation Department. Duties will be performed indoors and outdoors, at times under adverse weather conditions and for extended periods. This is a shift position, primarily on the night (2nd) shift, Monday - Friday, 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. The role requires the individual to supply their own hand tools and to work emergency and planned overtime to support the 24/7 nature of the utility business. Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs is part of every employee’s role, and if employed, you will be given an Emergency Restoration assignment, meaning you may be called to assist during an emergency outside of your normal responsibilities, work hours, and location.
