About The Position

Under general supervision, performs various kinds of skilled and unskilled work in connection with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of automotive and mobile or stationary, heavy-duty equipment, including any associated components and equipment. Must have a working knowledge of the operation and construction of internal combustion engines and hydraulic assemblies. Must have the ability to diagnose operating deficiencies of automotive and hydraulic equipment and the mechanical ability to install new and maintain equipment for all types of work related to the Transportation Department. Will perform duties indoors and outdoors, at times under adverse weather conditions and for extended periods. Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs is part of every employee’s role. If employed, you will be given an Emergency Restoration assignment. This means you may be called to assist during an emergency outside of your normal responsibilities, work hours and location.

Requirements

  • Four and one-half years’ experience as fully qualified garage mechanics.
  • Education and training equivalent to graduation from high school or vocational school, supplemented by a one-year trade school course.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the operation and construction of internal combustion engines and hydraulic assemblies.
  • Must have the ability to diagnose operating deficiencies of automotive and hydraulic equipment.
  • Must have the mechanical ability to install new and maintain equipment for all types of work related to the Transportation Department.
  • Must supply own hand tools.
  • Must be able to work emergency and planned overtime to support the 24/7 nature of the utility business.

Nice To Haves

  • Qualified to hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
