About The Position

Supervise garage operations to provide sufficient equipment for daily use. Fleet maintenance will ensure reliable, safe, clean and efficient equipment at the lowest total cost of ownership. Supervise garage mechanics as they perform assigned repairs and preventive maintenance functions on all required equipment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of business principles, accounting procedures, filing systems and record keeping.
  • Strong communication and supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge of DOT and environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of payroll systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and writing.
  • Ability to understand and work with a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Ability to plan and organize departmental operations.
  • Ability to operate computer systems.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Supervisory experience in transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the garage workforce in compliance with the union contract.
  • Accomplish organizational goals in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the garage work force is properly trained to perform their jobs.
  • Oversee grounds maintenance, to include lot work and snow and ice removal.
  • Oversee the delivery and underground storage of fuels and oil to ensure adequate inventory and environmental compliance.
  • Select and train new mechanics as required.
  • Maintain vendor network for road breakdowns.
  • Ensure all parts and all equipment warranty due is filed and paid on a timely basis.
  • Monitor expenses to assure they are within budget guidelines and meet goals.
  • Ensure work area and equipment is safe for all personnel.
  • Monitor and control the purchasing of all parts, tires, fuel and equipment for the facility and to monitor the inventories of each.
  • Spec new equipment for the AWG fleet that is efficient, feasible and best fits our company’s needs.
  • Ensure all company policies; rules and procedures are followed and enforced.
  • Reconcile all grievances and issue discipline if necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations to include DOT, environmental, and licensing.
  • Optimize parts inventory control.
  • Establish vendor relations to obtain the most reasonable parts purchase prices.
  • Implement new policies and procedures to lower cost and raise productivity on equipment and in the garage area.
  • Provide resources and training to all supervisors and mechanics on new technology changes in the industry and in DOT standards and ensure they are certified in the areas needed.
