About The Position

The Gambling Disorder Prevention Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating gambling disorder prevention and education services within the community. This position focuses on increasing awareness of problem gambling, reducing stigma, promoting responsible gambling practices, and connecting individuals and families to appropriate support and treatment resources. The coordinator will collaborate with community agencies, schools, healthcare providers, courts, behavioral health organizations, and other stakeholders to support prevention initiatives and outreach efforts.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of gambling disorders, substance use disorders, prevention principles, and behavioral health services.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build effective community partnerships and collaborative relationships.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral processes.
  • Ability to engage diverse populations with professionalism and cultural sensitivity.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Experience in prevention services, gambling services, behavioral health, community outreach, public health, or substance use treatment preferred.
  • Project management and implementation of programs
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the community as needed.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for community events and outreach activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Problem and Compulsive Gambling Counselor (PCGC) certification
  • International Certified Gambling Counselor (ICGC) certification
  • Employees without certification must successfully complete the required 30-hour Gambling Disorder training (IDHS/DBHR) within a designated timeframe established by the agency.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement gambling disorder prevention programming and community outreach activities.
  • Provide educational presentations, workshops, and trainings regarding problem gambling and co-occurring behavioral health concerns.
  • Develop prevention campaigns and distribute educational materials to community partners and stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with schools, healthcare providers, treatment agencies, community organizations, and local coalitions.
  • Participate in health fairs, awareness events, recovery events, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Assist with screening, referral, and linkage to gambling treatment and recovery support services when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reports, data collection, and program outcome measures in compliance with grant and agency requirements.
  • Monitor prevention activities to ensure compliance with state, federal, and agency standards.
  • Assist in development and implementation of prevention strategies targeting high-risk populations.
  • Promote public awareness regarding the signs, symptoms, and risks associated with gambling disorder.
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and required training.
  • Support agency initiatives, strategic planning, and community partnership development.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and agency policies.
  • Supervise and Oversee Gambling Peer Support Specialist
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
