About The Position

The Gambling Prevention Peer Support Specialist provides gambling screenings, peer-based support, education, advocacy, outreach, and recovery-oriented services to individuals impacted by gambling disorders and related behavioral health concerns. This position utilizes lived experience and recovery principles to support prevention efforts, reduce stigma, increase awareness, and assist individuals in accessing appropriate resources and services. The Peer Support Specialist serves as a positive role model for recovery and wellness while supporting community outreach, prevention education, and engagement activities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of recovery principles, peer support services, and behavioral health systems.
  • Understanding gambling disorder, addiction, and co-occurring behavioral health concerns.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and engagement skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport and build supportive relationships with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral processes.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards.
  • Lived experience in gambling.
  • High School Graduate/GED
  • Experience working in behavioral health, prevention services, peer support, or community outreach.
  • Knowledge of gambling disorder prevention and recovery support services.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the community as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support and recovery-oriented services to individuals impacted by gambling-related concerns.
  • Share lived experience appropriately to encourage hope, engagement, wellness, and recovery.
  • Assist individuals with accessing community resources, support services, treatment referrals, and recovery supports.
  • Participate in gambling disorder prevention outreach and educational activities within the community.
  • Assist with prevention presentations, awareness campaigns, health fairs, and community events.
  • Promote responsible gambling education, provide gambling screening, and increase awareness regarding signs and symptoms of gambling disorder.
  • Encourage participation in recovery support services, peer groups, and wellness activities.
  • Build supportive relationships with individuals, families, and community partners.
  • Assist with distributing prevention materials and educational resources.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and data collection in compliance with agency and grant requirements.
  • Participate in supervision, training, staff meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and agency policies.
  • Support agency mission, values, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
