About The Position

Nucor Steel West Virginia is seeking a Galvanizing Line Maintenance Mechanic who demonstrates high levels of honesty, integrity, and ownership in everything they do. The selected teammate will play a critical role in ensuring the team’s success by safely performing preventative and corrective maintenance on steel mill equipment and systems. Nucor is currently completing construction of two world-class galvanizing lines that will produce automotive exposed and construction-grade materials. This role offers a unique opportunity to support the commissioning of new systems, robotics, and furnace equipment, while contributing to long-term reliability by identifying critical spare parts and developing maintenance plans within our CMMS systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of industrial maintenance experience
  • Foundational knowledge of mechanical theory, including hydraulics
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical systems
  • Experience working with LOTO procedures for complex systems
  • Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-year or 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related technical field
  • Steel mill experience in cold processing operations, including robotics, galvanizing, tempering, pickling, or cold rolling mills

Responsibilities

  • Propose and implement innovative solutions to challenges in the steelmaking process with a focus on safety, reliability, quality, cost, and project execution
  • Perform mechanical troubleshooting and routine preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Interpret and work from mechanical and electrical schematics, including metric and DIN standards
  • Apply knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, accumulators, centralized lubrication systems, alignment, power transmission, pumps, and piping systems
  • Train teammates on new equipment and modifications to existing systems
  • Support operational needs, including the ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and scheduled/unscheduled overtime
